Is it worth the efforts to quite job and start own business?
Wahid:
It is always worth to take calculated risk to achieve success as per the potential which every individual possess. All the pain, efforts, fear, insecurities is worth for the end result of success, status and living with dignity. Those who get STUCK in the job are actually in the frame of mind which oscillate between Liability -Asset zone. They are unable to decide whether their job is an asset or it has already become the liability. The biggest TRAP in the Job is Salary, position and power. It leads the employee into the comfort zone. In the job its extremely difficult to live a life of DIGNITY and achieve your full potential. Failure of start-up or business is because of lack of proper planning, absence of back-up systems and no mentoring.
Biggest hurdle you faced to established your business
Wahid:
Lack of finance experience and Poor understanding of managing Finance was the single biggest hurdle. Though I had the technological expertise, learning and practising the Financial planning and management was a big task. I was Unable to plan finance initially. The doubt was that with the bare minimum investment of Rs 30 lakhs how we will compete with the giant corporates. As the first step, I as well as all partners decided not to take salary or profit or reimbursement of expenditure for first six months. We cut down and controlled all overhead expenditure, which helped us in sailing through the first year with the turnover of Rs 2 crores
What fears or doubts did you face before quitting Job and making the leap? How did you overcome them?
Wahid:
The first thought which enter my mind was, I am starting with ZERO, with no business experience and not having sufficient Funds. Another thought which really troubled me was whether we will get INVESTOR? One thought which helped me in overcoming fears and doubt and motivated me to quit job and start business was , ' Life has immense potential and Job will never be able to help me achieve my full potential'.
What made you so successful
The Trust which I build with clients, vendors, suppliers during my job ensured that our Business took off without any major hiccup. While launching the business, the team had a plan in place to face the worst case scenario. All Partners had kept the backup of 6 months. Also to avoid any last minute issues we ensured that we fulfil all Legal Compliances. We had an SOP to keep accounts books clean and implemented all statutory requirements in toto. From day one we started behaving as 100 crore company.
How did you manage financial instability (e.g., No fixed salary, irregular income, start-up costs etc)
Wahid
The crucial issue in the first year was to keep in check the overhead expenditure with the MOTO of ZERO WASTAGE. We reduced overhead expenditure to bare minimum. All pomp and show were a big No. We launched the company by following the system similar to airplane take-off such as daily checklist, rigorous monitoring of all process, analysing numbers as they get entry into our system. Business Take off need implementations of 100 percent processes, following all checklist and identification and action on any alert.
What advice would you give someone considering leaving their job to start a business?
Wahid
The comfort of the fixed salary and daily routine makes an individual lose sight of his dreams and undermine their own potential to grow. Starting own company though painful is in reality a joy, which come from creating something of your own. It leads to maturity due to decision making, increase the vision and expand the horizon to achieve more and more in life to serve the society.
